Previously, Oren Uziel was involved in the project when Paramount announced the remake in the fall, but it seems that Wingard and Barrett are embarking on a new direction. Despite the seemingly outlandish premise of the original film, which became John Woo’s highest-grossing U.S. film, raking in $246 million in global ticket sales, the reboot is anticipated to take shape as a compelling two-hander, potentially featuring strong male or female leads.
In the original Face/Off, Travolta portrayed FBI agent Sean Archer, driven by an obsession to apprehend the homicidal sociopath Castor Troy, played by Nicolas Cage. The narrative unfolds as Archer undergoes facial transplant surgery, adopting Troy’s face to infiltrate prison and prevent an impending attack. However, complications arise when Troy regains consciousness, leading to a face swap. The story intensifies with a series of meticulously choreographed action sequences. The screenplay for the original was penned by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary.
Barrett is represented by Novo and Morris Yorn, while Wingard, whose Godzilla Vs. Kong is set for release on March 31, is represented by CAA and Grandview.
